Storyboard Text

  • The confederacy won the battle of Chancellorsville, but, some nervous soldiers shot General Stonewall thinking he was a Union soldier.
  • This happened in May of 1863.
  • General Grant called for reinforcements in the battle of shiloh on the 7th of April in 1862.
  • Because of this they were able to win, as well as take both sides of the Mississippi river.
  • They did this by marching inland eastward to launch a surprise attack on Jackson. It was successful.
  • On July 4 the Confederates surrendered Vicksburg. After months and months of failing to capture it, the North had successfully captured it.
  • On the last day the Union opened fire on the Confederates and killed or injured most of their soldiers. This resulted in a win for the Union.
  • The Battle of Gettysburg was a long three day battle. On July 1, the Confederacy drove the  Union out of the town.
  • The next day, General Lee was unsuccessful in dislodging the Union army.
  • The Union's victories in Vicksburg and Gettysburg marked the turning point in the war.
  • Still, the South was determined to fight. The war would last another 2 years.
