  • Deadlock in negotiations
  • Please gather the employees so that I can inform them about promotions for this year
  • Yes sir, I will gather them in the conference room immediately
  • The employer has a meeting with the employees
  • Good day, please be advised, due to financial reasons, no one will be considered for any promotions this year
  • We feel as though this is unfair as we have all worked hard for a promotion

  • The company has no way of accommodating for promoting employees
  • There must be a way in order for the employees to get a promotion?
  • The employer needs to set up a meeting to discuss the problem and inform his employees of the negative and disappointing news.
  • Collective bargaining between parties
  • The company does not need to increase the pay of the promotion by much
  • This illustrates the employer mentioning the challenge at hand and the employees do not agree with it and are not happy. They will therefore consult with their representative in order to assist them in the negotiation as the representative is the voice of the employees.
  • Potential Compromise between parties
  • Maybe if the employees agree to a promotion without increase now, they can receive the increase when the company can afford it?
  • This illustrates the employees representative who is going to assist and negotiate with the employer in order to try and make sure the outcome is in their favor and to prevent a deadlock.
  • The employer communicates with the employees
  • We have been unable to compromise on promotions due to the companies financial situation unfortunately.
  • We will be going to the CCMA to speak about this situation.
  • This is where the representative tries to bargain with the employer in order to try and get him to change his mind regarding the problem at hand.
  • Unfortunately, the company is not allowed to promote employees without increasing pay too.
  • Here is where we find that there is a deadlock in the negotiation as the employer has no alternative and both him and the representative cannot come to a compromise in order to accommodate for the employees.
  • We have no guarantee when we will be able to afford to increase their pay so we cannot promise that.
  • The employees have to take matters further to the CCMA, BC, or SC when there is a deadlock in order to try and get the situation resolved and in their favor.
