  • Being instinctual can protect from possible dangers.
  • Fire or digging myself in the snow to keep warm…?
  • Foolishness can worsen the situation.
  • I thought I could do this on my own…
  • Being instinctual can protect from possible dangers.
  • Time to go find someone else…
  • The dog is instinctual and always has an alternative, just in case the first plan doesn’t work. Unlike the man, he is very thoughtful and is able to recognize the many different ways to get out of a situation. This could protect the dog from possible dangers because his alternatives always give him another way out of a situation. Instead of thinking that only the fire will protect him from the cold, he finds another way to protect himself: the snow. He realizes that one option might not be possible so it is important to have another ready, just in case.
  • Being unprepared can lead to problems.
  • I wish I brought something to cover my nose…
  • The man acts foolish and doesn’t listen to the advice of the man he met who suggested that he should take someone with him. When his fire dies, he realizes that if someone was with him, they would have helped him build the fire. It was foolish of him to act stubborn and think that he could get through the freezing weather on his own.
  • Being a deep thinker can lead to ideas to prevent major issues.
  • You shouldn’t go alone in this freezing weather. You should take someone with you.
  • Why would I need someone else…?
  • The man didn’t think deeply and wasn’t instinctual, like the dog. The dog was able to survive and the man wasn’t. Because of him always having a plan ready, just in case one plan didn’t work, he was able to get out of life threatening situations, such as freezing to death. Now that the man died, the dog realizes that he needs to be with someone else to survive and walks away from the man in order to look for his alternative.
  • It is important to understand that one thing could have different meanings behind it.
  • It keeps us warm. That’s it.
  • The fire will keep us alive…
  • The man didn’t fully think about everything he should bring in order to survive the freezing cold weather. He came to a realization that he should have brought something to cover his nose after his nose started freezing. He didn’t plan ahead and because of that, he is now freezing to death.
  • After being told by a man to take someone else with him, he ignores the advice that he received and proceeded to go on this journey alone. He thought that just because it’s cold doesn’t mean that he needs a companion. He didn’t really think I’d the weather below 0 as anything else except cold. If he thought about how this kind of weather can lead to abs tackles and can be life threatening, he would have thought that the idea of taking a companion is excellent.
  • The man thinks of fire only as something that keeps him warm, He doesn’t analyze the fact that it is also a key to survival in the freezing cold situation. The fire is like hope that he will survive. He doesn’t value the fire as something that will save his life. Instead, he only focuses on the basic fact which is that the fire will keep him warm and help thaw his freezing body. If he understood the value of the fire, he would have used it more frequently and maybe been able to survive at the end.
