Storyboard Text

  • Erich Honecker becomes the new leader for the Communist Party in 1971. As he was ruling he had used the secret police to rule for 18 yeas. He lead with a harsh regime causing many East Germans to flee their country. Many people demonstrated their disagreement with it in 1989.
  • In 1989 many Germans were finally able to reunite with family and friends after the communist party surrendered. Both East and West Germans started to tear down the wall. The Communist Government was helpless to it ordered the wall to be taken down. The Berlin Wall being a symbol of the Cold War was finally taken down.
  • Germany finally had their first fee election in March 1990. Christian Democrats won by 50% votes. They supported the political union between East and West Germany. East and West Germany was unified October 3, 1990. In 1989 it had seemed impossible at the beginning, but by the end Germany became one.
