  • Yes, I am John Dalton. I think atoms are the smallest pieces of any element as a solid sphere without an energetic charge. All matter is made of atoms, which are particles that are too small to be seen. I suppose each element has its own kind of atom with its own particular mass. All atoms of any one element are identical. Compounds are created when atoms of different elements combine in a specific ratio. Atoms cannot be created, destroyed or subdivided during chemical changes.
  • Hello everyone, I would like to present what I have found. If you do not know me I am Democritus. I suspect everything is made of atoms. So, for example, if I cut this cheese in half enough times, I will eventually get an atom. I don’t care what the people of my day say. I know I am right. Your name is John Dalton right?
  • Nice to meet you, my name is Michael Faraday. I showed atoms could gain electrical charges. I think matter must contain positive and negative charges. Opposite charges attract and repel like charges. Atoms can combine to form the particles of a compound because of the electrical attraction between charged atoms. Atoms have an electrical component to them. I placed two opposite electrodes in a solution of water containing a dissolved compound observing that one of the elements of the dissolved compound gathered up on one electrode and the other element was put on the other electrode. What’s your name again? I failed to catch it.
  • My name is JJ Thomson. I have discovered electrons. I found out the atom is mostly made up of positively-charged matter with small negatively charged electrons scattered throughout. I made a raisin bun model which has been accepted by most scientists. Electrons have a very small mass. The rest of the atom has a positive charge. The electrons are embedded randomly in the positive part of the atom. I have found, electrons can be removed from or added to atoms to create charged atoms. I experimented with cathode ray tubes
  • Hello, I have discovered something. When I shone beams of alpha particles on some gold foil, all the beams went through except for one that bounced back. This shows that the atom is made up of mostly empty space surrounding a small nucleus. This nucleus is positively charged. It is surrounded at a great distance by the negativelycharged electrons.
  • Hello, nice to meet you. I am Niels Bohr. I have found that electrons orbit the nucleus in shells. I think electrons could not occupy values of energy between the fixed energy levels. I still think that there is something that is missing from the atom.
  • Hello, I am James Chadwick. That’s really good to know except I have discovered something called an neutron. A neutron is a subatomic particle which makes up an atom. A neutron is found in the nucleus of an atom. It was nice talking to you. Goodbye.
  • I am Erwin Schrodinger and I found, electrons do not move in set paths around the nucleus but in waves. It is impossible to locate the exact position of electrons. Instead I have made clouds of probabilities called orbitals which is where we will most likely find an electron. What did you discover?
  • Great ideas everyone!
