  • And so the Battle begins
  • Now fought like you've never fought before!
  • The plan falls into action
  • A Trap at Yorktown
  • British commander, Charles Lord Cornwallis was in Yorktown, he needed to resupply his 9,000 army in 1781. While G.W and the French general, Rochambeau  was camped north of New York City.This base was under the command of British commander General Clinton. The other French and American army commanded by Admiral de Grasse was guarding the entrance to Chesapeake bay .
  • The battle rages on
  • G.W changes his plan and instead of him and Rochambeau going to N.Y.C, they head to Yorktown. Leading 12,000 militia French troops to Yorktown. While the other U.S and French troops were guarding the coast at Chesapeake. After an extremley large journey to Yorktown, they arrived on Sep. 28 and began to surrounded the area with armed forces.
  • The battle Continues
  • The French and Americans began digging a parallel trench allowing them to move closer to the British lines. Then on October 9, Washington began his bombardment which was a continuous attack with bombs, shells, or other weapons. For a week the American and French pounded the British soldiers.
  • Finally VICTORY!!
  • To keep Cornwallis from leaving and repairing his defenses a fire was kept up all day and night. In October, G.W ordered a new parallel to be dug 400 yards closet to the British lines. On the evening of October 14, after a heavy bombardment, the French and Americans launched their physical attacks.
  • The French and Americans fought with fixed bayonets and unloaded muskets. After physical attack, the British were overwhelmed. On October 15, Cornwallis launched his last attack and it failed.
  • Then on October 17, 1781 the British surrendered. They celebrated that they had finally won the war! In the end there was only 280 casualties for the American and French and 500 for the British. Another 600 British were wounded and 7,500 captured.
