Later that day, Ms. Baillie went out to dinner with her husband Casey and her friend Krystal who works with Ms. Baillie at the childcare center
Hey Baillie! Did you see Timmy's dad today? He looked so hot and I heard that he and Timmy's mom got a divorce so now he's available!
Although, I don't think I'd want to date him. I can't stand Timmy! I really think he's autistic or something!
Or should I let her know that it's not okay to talk about families like that especially outside the workplace?
Should I say nothing and hope she changes the subject soon?
Why would she talk about families outside of school, and talking about their personal business nonetheless. I like Krystal as a friend, but that sort of behavior is not okay. What should I do?
And another thing...
Hey Krystal, let's talk about something else because it's really not our business to be talking about the family. Especially in a public place like this. I don't want our jobs to be in jeopardy.
Alright, fine. What do we want to talk about?
Even though I felt awkward bringing up changing the subject, I'm glad I did. It's my ethical duty to respect my students, families, colleagues, and community as an educator! I feel like I could receive an award!
