His mom dislikes her son's song choices because the level of profanity involved in them makes her uncomfortable. Darius and his mom argue that his generation's unique music taste which helps shape the identity of the youth in his generation doesn't correlate with her's. She doesn't understand how this amount of foul language could be considered music. They argue until he gets to school which leaves Darius in a terrible mood.

The reason being is that they can relate to the importance of influencing social activities that are going on. Also, individuals in the same Peer Group will likely understand and relate with each other easily, because they may also have the same problems as you. Moreover, in the case of friends, it feels more comfortable for the individual to speak freely to them because they are "chosen friends" and unlike family, can"t be "chosen".

  • Skip day is a legendary day where grade 12 students intentionally miss class and meet up at a location and indulge with each other. This day is a tradition because past grade 12s students also did this and had tales to tell about their wild adventures, pranks they did, and the memories they made. Skip day is a life course stage that adolescent grade 12 students pass through before going through the rites and passages of graduating. It makes the transition from high school to university more wholesome.

  • let's make today legendary
  • Darius spoke to his mom about his plans. He is trying to be independent of his parents and have more social interactions with his peers. This correlates with Erik Erikson's theory that " the primary goal in the developmental stage of adolescence is to answer the question who am I". Darius is still trying to find his identity, so he continuously seeks it with others in his Peer Group and his interaction with them would help him understand Social Norms.
