- The blood trail led to a lake. Beowulf says that he was going to go alone to fight Grendel's mother but only with his sword.
- In the lake he found a cave and enters, inside was Grendel's mother
- She was very angry with Beowulf for what he did, so she was going to make him pay for it. In revenge, she wanted to kill Beowulf but she failed.
- And he ended up killing her when he took her head off with his sword.
- When he came out of the lake and said that he defeated the monsters, everybody was very happy and greatful with him.
- He and the soldiers who had accompanied him were returning to tell the great news. The king and the people were very grateful. But Beowulf decided to return home the next day.
