- I was told to do it by the head priest. I was also told that it will be transferred to the Chinese cemetery.
- But I suggest that it would be better if the body is thrown in the lake than to be transferred to the Chinese.

- Ibarra arrives at the graveyard and interrogates the gravedigger.
- Alright I'll tell you, it was your predecessor, Father Dámaso. He ordered Don Rafael"s exhumation.
- Enranged Ibarra leaves the graveyard from what the gravedigger told him.
- Ibarra sees Father Salví walking in the opposite direction as he walks upon his house. Although the two men have never met, Ibarra stops the friar by putting his hand on his shoulder and ask him about his father.
- Father Salví, scared, replied while he's being pressed by Ibarra.
- Ibarra persists, pressing his hand on the priest’s shoulder until the man cowers on his knees and told him the truth.
- Realizing his mistake but neglecting to apologize, Ibarra rushes away, leaving the friar on his knees in the street.
