  • The Three Temptations of Jesus in the DesertMatthew 4:1-11
  • The Holy Spirit led Jesus into the desert to let te devil tempt him. He fasted for forty days and nights. Jesus was quite hungry.
  • Then the devil came to him and asked him toturn stones into bread to prove that he's the Son of God. Jesus refused.
  • "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread" (Matthew 4:3).
  • "It is written: ' Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God' "(Matthew 4:4).
  • The devil had Jesus go with him to the highest point of the temple in the holy city. The devil asked Jesus to prove he was the Son of God by jumping down from the temple. Satan explained that if he was really the Son of God, "For it is written: 'He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone' " (Matthew 4:6). Jesus responded saying, "It is also written: ‘Donot put the Lord your God to the test' " (Matthew 4:7).
  • The devil had Jesus go with him to a mountain where they saw the world's kingdoms and their glory. He tempted Jesus for a third time saying that if Jesus worshipped him, he would give the kingdoms they saw to him. Jesus yelled at him, telling him to go away. He explained that he must only worship and serve God.
  • The devil left and angels arrived.
