I will reject the request for surrender.
(April 9th) Confederate army attacked the Union's army--blocked the road towards the railway--wasn't able to make further progress and asked for help.
I've agreed to meet with General Grant.
Lee agrees to meet with Grant.
Lee rides out to the spot he thought that he and Grant would be meeting., later receiving a letter from Grant that stated he wouldn't be meeting for peace talking.
lee then writes a letter saying he was ready to surrender and rides on.
Lee writes a letter to Meade, requesting immediate truce across the lines.
