Storyboard Text

  • The very first battle in the Revolutionary War was the Battles of Lexington and Concord. That means the first shots were fired here. They were described as the "shot heard 'round the world'".

  • The Declaration of Independence was a document created by Thomas Jefferson which formally cut all ties between the Colonies and Britain. They could have also tried to abolish slavery but Thomas Jefferson it was too much of a stretch.
  • Battle of Saratoga was fought in 1777, the second year of the war and was a very big win for the Continental Army. It was often referred to as a major turning point in the war. During the war, women were doing a lot of the things that men were doing because all of the men were in the war.
  • Valley Forge was in the harsh Winter of December 1777 to June 1778. The troops were discouraged but George Washington kept them busy and they came out a stronger and more disciplined army then before.
  • On October 19, 1781 General Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington in the Battle of Yorktown. Yorktown was the final major battle that was fought in the Revolutionary war.
  • Treaty of Paris was a treaty that ended the Revolutionary war. It also said that the colonists had all of the land east of the Mississippi river which took the Native Americans land. Overall in the war the Colonists didn't have as many advantages other than fighting on their home soil.
