- Ibarra arrived in the Philippines after studying in Europe
- Ibarra learned what happened to the body of his deceased father
- Elias saved Ibarra
- A party was held in his honor by Capitan Tiago at his house in Manila which was attended by renowned local personalities.Padre Damaso belittled Ibarra and tried to harm his reputation. Ibarra ignored the friar’s affront. When he left the house of Capitan Tiago, Lieutenant Guevara told him the miserable fate of his deceased father in San Diego.
- Ibarra was excommunicated.
- After visiting his sweetheart Maria Clara, he’d known through the grave digger that his father’s corpse was dug up by the order of curate to be transferred to a Chinese cemetery but due to heavy rains and heavy corpse, the grave digger threw Don Rafael’s corpse into the river.Due to the anger that he felt, Ibarra suddenly attacked Padre Salvi when he saw the San Diego Parish Priest. Padre Salvi explained that it was Padre Damaso who was the town’s parish priest at the time of his father’s death.
- Ibarra was accused of heading the uprising
- Maria Clara and Ibarra attended the morning mass for the town fiesta of San Diego. During the mass, Elias silently approached Ibarra and notified him of the plot to kill him during the ceremony of laying the school’s cornerstone. Elias was able to rescue Ibarra when the platform collapsed. The one who died in the incident was the man paid to harm Ibarra.

- Ibarra hosted a banquet and Padre Damaso who attended the feast publicly shamed Ibarra for the dignity of his dead father. Ibarra almost killed Damaso were not for Maria Clara who interfered just in time. Ibarra was excommunicated as a result, and his engagement to Maria Clara was called off after Damaso persuaded Capitan Tiago to forbid the lady from marrying Ibarra.
- Ibarra’s enemies attacked the station of Guardia Civil and he was blamed as the one who instigated the uprising. Elias helped Ibarra escape from prison.
- Ibarra and Elias sailed away. Elias told Ibarra to lie down and then covered him in grass to hide his presence. They were spotted by their enemies. Elias jumped into the sea, thinking he could outsmart them. The guards poured bullets down on him, completely unaware that they were shooting at the wrong man.
