- Sure thing I'm happy you want to learn about your family's past!
- Hey grandpa, I always wondered where we come from. Can you tell me about the story of our ancestors?
- It all started around the years 1800's, at that time there was still slavery. Your ancestors would work all day under the sun and be so tired because of their jobs and their evil bosses. But they always had something to cheer them up after an awful day, and that was blues.
- but people didn't give up, they wanted rights like the right to vote. So they all joined in the streets and started marching demanding more freedom and rights. They were demonstrating for what we call the civil rights movement.

- The blues is a musical genre that slaves used to sing to express themselves, to feel better and to feel united with people that were in their situations
- Grandpa what's blues?
- It's in 1865 that slavery was abolished and people were so happy. They were finally free! But they still had a problem, African Americans didn't have many rights and always had to be separated from white people because they were considered inferior.
- EQUAL RIGHTS!!!!
- But once again it was a hard battle and they were often put in prison because of their acts. That didn't stop them though, they had what we call the civil rights movement music. This music was capable to tell a story and to feel united. In fact the police couldn't stop people from singing even with a rag in their mouth they could still hum, this is why music was so important, because it was really powerful.
