- 7 states seceded from the Union to form the Confederate States of America. Fort Sumter was an island in the middle of these states.

- April 11, 1861
- On April 12, 1861 at 4:30AM the Confederacy shot the first shot into Fort Sumter. At 7:00AM the Union shot back in defense. The shooting lasted for 34 hours. 3,000 shells were fired.
- We surrender!!!!!
- April 13, 1861
- President Lincoln got 75,000 volunteers to fill the ranks of the Union Army the next day.
