The Mayan civilization stretched from southeastern Mexico across Guatemala, Belize, and western parts of Honduras and El Salvador. The Civilization lasted for about 1,200 years.
The Mayans greatest achievement was probably there understanding of astronomy and mathematics. They were able to understand the meaning of zero and predict solar eclipses.
What happened to the Mayan civilization?
Another achievement that Mayans had was their art. The Mayans were extremely good artists and they made sculptures out of stone and made pottery.
Another achievement was the Mayan's style of agriculture. The slash and burn agriculture was very effective and helped their crops grow. The Mayans would cut down the crops and set the field on fire.
There are many theories of why the Mayan civilization disappeared. One theory states that the Mayans were defeated by a stronger civilization. Another straits that an insect infected their crops and killed the Mayans. Also, a another theory says that their agriculture ruined their soil so their crops wouldn't grow. Finally, a theory says that a large drought drove the Mayans out of their land.
I think that the most believable theory is the Insect theory because the area has many bugs and insects and it makes sense that if their crops were infected they would have to leave.
