"A Shocking Accident" by Graham Greene
Blake Wells English 1st 5/3/18
In the story "A Shocking Accident" a boy named jerome is the main character. Jerome has a very vivid imagination, but he is also easily embarrassed. Jerome's imagination affects the plot cause him listing the ways he belives his father dies keeps the reader wondering what really happened.
In the beggining of " A Schocking Accident" jerome is told his father was in a shocking accident. Jerome begins imagining the many possible ways his father could have died since he though he was in the british secret service. The real shocking accident that occured was his father was crushed by a pig falling from a high balcony.
The main confilict in this story is also jerome's biggest fear. Jerome knows that his father's death is very comical, and he fears that everyone will laugh at it. He wants people to remember his dad for who he was and not the funny way he died.
A PIG FELL ON HIM????
Jerome finally builds up the confidence to tell his wife how his father died. He tells her expecting her to laugh like everyone else did, but she didn't laugh. Instead she showed empathy for him loosing his father in such a bizarre way
The main theme of this story is embarrassment. Through the majority of the story jerome is embarrased to tell people of his father's death. When i first began reading the story i was a bit confused on what was going on in the story, but reading further it became clear of what had happened. This was a great story and I'm glad that it ended the way it did.
