Storyboard Text

  • Wow, Bob, you are so fast. You finished 1.3 seconds faster than Billy who got 12 seconds.
  • I know I ran fast but by how much speed faster was I than Billy?
  • I will measure the length of the hill.
  • Well Bob, to calculate the speed, we first need to find the dimensions of this hill.
  • OK. I will go measure the height of the hill!
  • The length was 300m.
  • What were the dimensions of the hill?
  • The height was 100m.
  • Since the hill is a slope, we need to use the Pythagorean theorem to calculate the third side on which you ran on. So the slope side would be approximately 316.22m.
  • Cool, what next
  • Hmm, I'm not sure
  • Now, to find your speed, we need to use the formula Speed=Distance/Time and divide (12-1.3) from 316.22). When we do that, we get approximately 30 meters per second, which is your speed.
  • Me neither.
