Hi! My name is Jim. I am an all white rabbit and love living near this big tree. I think nature is calling and it's time to reproduce.
Step 1: Overproduction of Offspring
Hi! My name is Betty and Jim and I have produced 10 offspring because not all of them will survive to adulthood.
Step 2: Genetic Variation
I am an all white rabbit. This is a genetic variation of our species. Betty has brown fur and this helps her blend into our environment better. Our children have both brown and white fur because we pass out genes on through the process of heredity.
Step 3: Selection
The advantageous trait that helps us survive is the brown and white fur. My white fur children and myself have a harder time surviving because we do not blend in well with our environment. That is why we have more children with brown fur.
Step 4: Adaptation
As rabbits, we are small in size, have string hind legs to help us avoid predators and fur to keep us warm in harsh conditions. These adaptations help us survive.
I hope this helped you learn a little bit more about natural selection of rabbits!
