The next day at school, Kaylee and Michael are paired up for a paper they have to write. Michael introduces himself as Mitchell Cambridge, trying to keep his real identity a secret.
Mr. Cambridge, you'll be partners with Ms. Kingsly.
Hi, I'm Mitchell
They work on it everyday after school all week. They bond with each other and Michael begins to realize that Kaylee is actually very sweet and that he is falling in love with her. But his plan! It is already set into motion and now it's too late.
Michael shouted at her then running out of the building, trying to run from his feelings and hopefully putting a stop to his plan, but Kaylee ran after him, following him all the way to the edge of town.
No! I'm done with this stupid paper and I'm done with you! Leave! Stay away from me!
Mitchell, can you come over to my house so we can finish our paper?
Kaylee hesitated when she saw Michael enter the forest, but she continued to run after him. However, that hesitation was what Michael needed to escape from Kaylee’s gaze.
Just as she was about to give up and go home, she stumbled upon a run-down shack. Her curiosity getting the best of her, she went inside the shack. Her eyes are caught on the things hanging on the walls. Newspaper articles plastered on one of them and one old, tattered photograph of a little boy’s seventh birthday sitting with his parents, a birthday cake sitting in front of him, in the center.
“8 Year Old Murders Family,” “South Carolina Child Sent to Maximum Security Prison,” “8 Year Old Charged as an Adult for Murdering Parents” “John and Sally Chambers Murdered by Son” Kaylee read the headlines of the newspapers and her head began to spin. She recognized the face of the eight year old child as Mitchell Cambridge but the newspapers say Michael Chambers. Kaylee pulls her laptop out of her bag and begins to look for anything else she could find out about Michael Chambers.
