- The Minister of Education and Madame George request the company of Mr and Madame Loisel
- Set in France , Paris a young middle class woman named matilda always dreamed of living a of luxury far beyond her reach.One day her husband comes home with an invitation to attend a party,at first she is exited but she soon realizes that she does not have anything nice to wear.

- I haven't a thing to wear how could i possibly go?
- Matilda wanted to look beautiful at the part , her husband sees that she is distraught and offers to giver her some money so that she could buy something nice to wear , but matilda is not pleased until she asks a wealthy friend for a beautiful necklace
- Listen Matilda , how much would a dress cost , a suitable one which you can wear
- I am not sure but i think i could make do with 400 Francs.
- Matilda borrows a diamond necklace from her wealthy friend , she is finally pleased and is ready to go to the party.
- would you please lend me this necklace just this and nothing else ?

- At the party Matilda was able to pull it off she felt beautiful and looked beautiful , but on the way back home the necklace goes missing. After days and nights of searching , she finally gives up and decides to replace it with another expensive necklace which looks identical to the misplaced one, but it costed way more than the original necklace.It takes them almost 10 years to repay their debt

- After 10 long years of hard work and struggle they were finally able to repay the enormous debt ......
- One Day Matilda , to the market and sees her friend from whom she had borrowed the necklace she tells her what had happened...The friend madame Forestier , tells matilda that the necklace was a fake and was not worth a lot of money.

- Oh my poor matilda. The one i gave you was a fake and was worth only 500 francs at most
- The necklace i returned was a replacement and it took us 10 years to pay for it
