The Texans would go on cattle drives that would start south of the Rio Grande to bring beef to Spanish outpost.They also started cattle drives to support Spanish and American armies in the Mississippi River valley.Some would take cattle to California to help feed the growing population of miners.
The Spindletop oil boom affected the economy,because the oil dropped to a low of three cents a barrel. The prices of the oil dropped,because there was more oil to give out than what was needed.These also created the boom-and-bust cycle,or alternating periods of growth and depression in an industry.
The reason why railroads were used over other travel is that they were cheap,fast,and reliable transportation.Rivers were too unreliable for shipping goods and dirt roads turned into mud after it rained.So it made moving people time-consuming and expensive.
