Storyboard Text

  • Antonio
  • Please can I borrow some money to marry Portia.
  • Bassanio
  • Shylock
  • You may have the loan but on these terms...
  • Antonio is the merchant of venace and is in love with Bassanio. However, Bassanio is in love with Portia and asks Antonio for money to be able to marry her. Antonio tells Bassanio to visit Shylock to ask for a lone while Antonios merchanise is being shipped across the sea.
  • Portia disguised as a man
  • Shylock agrees to give Bassanio the loan but only if he gives it back. Shylock says that if he fails to give the money back then Antonia will be killed (Shylock and Antonio already have a bad relationship).
  • Bassanio achieves his goals of marrying Portia but we immediately learn that Antonio's ships have all been sunk. Leaving him unable to pay Shylock the money he owes him. Shylock fights back and demands Antonio's heart ( a death sentence for Antonio).
  • To help Antonio, Portia disguises as a Lawyer and judges whether Shylock should get his pound of flesh. She resolves the situation and Antonio is no longer under threat of being killed by Shylock.
  • We then find out that Bassanio was given a wedding ring by Portia and was told never to give it away. However, he has given it away to the "Lawyer" as a reward for helping Antonio because he didn't know that it was actually Portia who he was giving the ring to.
  • In the end, Portia and Bassanio love each other. However, Antonio also loves Bassanio and his continued presence can be seen as a threat to Portia and Bassanio's relationship.
