- Montag meets his new neighbor, clarisse when walking home from work one night. He realizes that feels more alive and lively when hes around her an instant connection between the two of them.
- After Montag comes home he discovers mildred in her bed passed out from over dosing on sleeping pills, he becoms very frantic and worried and she ends up getting her stomach pumped to stay alive.
- During Montags job he encounters an old lady that refuses to part from her books shed rather die with them, montag and his fellow fire fighter end up burning the house down with the old women inside too.
- After the horrific event Montag had just witnessed he decides to not go to work, feeling very sick which is very rare for him. Mildred seems to not care about his sickness, more about why he isnt at work making money for the two of them.
- Beatty, one of Montags fellow firefighters stops by his house to check up on him giving him a speech about the whole reason why books are a burden to their society, trying to convince Montag of all the reasons they were helping.
- Already feeling guilty, Montag reveals his biggest secret to Mildred, all of the books hes been collecting during his job Mildred starts to show signs of fear knowing that if they are caught with these books they will face huge consequences.
