  • In 1701, 1300 delegates from 40 First Nation communities arrived in Montreal. After the treaty was signed the First Nations would no longer battle each other or the French.

  • France controlled trade along the St. Lawerence which gave them an advantage, they could now paddle through rivers and lakes to transport goods as far west as the Rocky Mountains.
  • The French made good use of the First Nation knowledge of the transportation routes.
