  • I am Toussaint L'ouveture and I freed Haiti from French rule. Here is how it went.
  • Toussaint was an educated servant whose father was a free man in Africa and taught Toussaint about the truth of being a man. He had access to books for knowledge. He was self-educated
  • Due to the French Revolution, France was already vulnerable. They had their backs down and Haiti took advantage. The Haitian slaves revolted and Toussaint L'ouverture was the leader of the rebellion.
  • Toussaint L'ouverture was able to defeat the French Army and free Haiti from the French. He brought peace for a while in Haiti
  • After the Reign of Terror in France ended, Napoleon reinstated slavery in French colonies and Haiti resisted. Years after, Toussaint would be going to see Napoleon for treaties to benefit Haiti.
  • Napoleon decided to recognize Haiti's independence and invited Toussaint to a meeting months after. He was sent to France and was immediately arrested. He was sent to a dungeon where he died of the conditions in the dungeon.
