  • There was a king at the time Louis XIVl, he was a very weak leader, he didn’t care about his people.He was born into the role, it didn’t matter if he was good at it or not
  • In the 1770s, the social and political system of France—the Old Regime—remained in place. Under this system, the people of France were divided into three large social classes or estates.
  • The 3 estates included, The first estate- Clergy (church), The 2nd estate-Rich nobles, 3rd is everyone else. 97% of the population was in the 3rd estate.

  • Since most things revolved around the King and he was a horrible leader, he got us into debt with his over the top which is why we called the Estates-General meeting. An assembly of representatives from all three estates had to approve this new tax. The meeting, the first in 175 years, was held on May 5, 1789, at Versailles.
  • First Estate is made up of The Roman Catholic Church's clergy. We've asked them about what's being in the 1st estate is like.
  • We own 10 percent of the land in France.
  • And that has provided education and relief services to the Poor.
  • Contributing about 2 percent of income to the government.
