- You wasn't in my life. Can I please borrow ten dollars.

- I ain't got to like you because a man is suppose to take care of his family.

- Ain't nobody want to be locked up.
- I think you should put him in the hospital where they can take care of him.
- Troy son Lyons comes to visit him to borrow ten dollars. Troy says he only comes to look for him when he needs money. Lyons responds by telling him that he was never there for him
- Cory asks Troy why he doesn't like him. Troy responds by telling him that he doesn't have to like him because he is his son, it is his responsibility to take care of his family.
- In act 1 scene 1 Troy is confused on what to do with Gabriel.Rose tells him that she thinks he should put him in the mental hospital.Troy doesn’t want to do that because he feels responsible for Gabriel because if he didn’t have an injury from being in the army and got compensation he couldn’t have bought a house to live in.
