  • There are three types of intermolecular forces: London dispersion force, dipole-dipole interactions and hydrogen bonding.
  • Intermolecular force is the force that mediates interaction between molecules, including the electromagnetic forces of attraction or repulsion which act between atoms and other types of neighboring particles, e.g. atoms or ions.
  • dipole-dipole interactions occur when the partial charges formed within one molecule are atrracted to an opposite partial charge in a nearby molecule.
  • The hydrogen bonding is a special type of dipole-dipole attraction between molecules, not a covalent bond to a hydrogen atom.
  • the London dispersion force is a temporary attractive force that results when the electrons in two adjacent atoms occupy positions that make atoms form temporary dipole
  • As I've mentioned yesterday, we are going to have a quiz today, so get a sheet of paper. Number 1, what is intermolecular force?
  • after the quiz
  • So the person who got perfect score is no other than Jess!!!
