December 1st 1955 Alabama, U.S.A. Rosa Parks, an African-American woman, took the Montgomery Bus to come back home after a long day of work...
At that time, buses were divided into 2 sections: the back side for black people and all the rest for white people.
Rosa was known for invigorating the struggle for racial equality when she refused to give up her bus seat to a white man in Montgomery, Alabama.
Madame, you have to stand up. I can sit down here, you can't!

Since she wouldn't give up her seat The bus driver called the cops and she ended up being arrested.
People boycotted the Montgomery bus system for over a year, 381 days to be exact.

The Supreme Court upheld that ruling of bus segregation in mid-November. The federal decision went into effect on December 20, 1956.
