Germany surrendered because Hitler died April 30th, 1945 in the Berlin bunker from suicide. Karl Don̈itz (naval admiral and ardent Nazi) was put in charge by Hitler for when Hitler died. Karl Don̈itz put Alfred Jodi in charge of negotiating with Dwight D. Eisenhower for German forces to surrender. Karl Don̈itz hoped that surrendering would give him time to get German troops and people out to the Russians path.
The United States and the Soviet Union became allies during WW2. When the war was over America and the Soviet Union were very powerful. The two countries had different ideas on how to structure Europe. This disagreement caused the Cold War.

The United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima on August 6th, 1945. The bomb “littleboy” was the first nuclear weapon that had been dropped on people. The bomb took 43 seconds to fall from being dropped 31,000 feet in the air. The explosion went 1,900 feet off the ground. The bombs caused fires that lasted days.
The atomic bomb “plutonium” was dropped on Nagasaki. America dropped the bomb on Nagasaki as well. This happened three days after the Hiroshima bombing. The bomb dropped on Nagasaki and killed at least 74,000 people.
The Soviet Union entering the war caused Japan to surrender in WW2. Japenese leaders said it was because of the bombing that they surrenderd. They didn’t want to say it was because of the Soviet Union entering. Japan surrendered WW2 September 2nd, 1945.
