Expedition
At the beginning of the story we are introduced our characters we have the monk known as Sir John, the merchant and the merchants beautiful wife. The monk is one of the frequent visitors that the merchant has at his house, the monk is a great friend of the merchant in fact he refers to him as brother.

The wife asks the merchant for money to buy expense clothes that her husband denies to her. The Sir John however does not have any money so what he does is ask the merchant for money to buy more cattle, the merchant provides him with a loan. The merchant gives the wife the money not telling her that it was not his it was only borrowed and the wife sleeps with the monk in return.

Climax
Where is my money?
I gave it to your wife!
After a while the merchant went and visited the monk at the monk's abbey and asks him where his money is. The monk informed him that he had given the money to the merchants wife a day or two after he had borrowed it. The merchant returned home and questioned his wife.

Falling Action
I spent it
Why didn't you tell me?
His wife explained to him that she had believed that the money the monk gave her was for being a house guest. She had used that money to buy fine clothes and she promised him that she would repay him.

Resolution/ Lesson Learned
However to repay him she told him that she would make it up to him in bed. In the end the merchant was decieved by his good friend. The lesson to be learned for this story is that you can never trust someone.
