- When Ponyboy walks back from the drive-in theater, he gets jumped by a group of Socs, which shows the hostility between the Greasers and the Socs. (page 5)
- After Ponyboy comes home late from the movies, Darry gets angry at Sodapop for defending Pony, and when Pony argues that Darry shouldn't yell at Soda, Darry slaps Pony, making Pony run away. (page 44)
