Outside of all of this were the Aztec residences, ball courts, gardens, and farmlands. Aztec architecture relied heavily on cosmology, astronomy, and religion, their massive cities reflected their beliefs and it’s an important key in understanding their history and culture, and how this affects their buildings and constructions.
They became very experienced corn farmers and were able to grow other foods due to the mild climate. Aztecs used a 365-day agricultural calendar. They used the chinaps method of agriculture, which was a form of making an island for the crops to grow on. This method was extremely successful and was a big improvement for the time.
Another popular form of farming during the Aztec time period was terrace farming. Terrace farming is when you have different layers of crops and it looks like stair steps up mountains.
The Aztecs mainly believed in Mesoamerican religion. It had elements of human sacrifice and religious festivals that were marked on the Aztec calendar.
They made temples to practice their religion in and connect to their gods. The religion was very complex and Polytheistic, with many gods and goddesses, they would also incorporate deities whose cults came from other geographic regions.
