Today we're going to be talking about how prescribed fires benefit the environment
Prevention of wildfire damage
By setting prescribed fires, the Michigan Prescribed Fire Council is able to reduce the damage of possible future wildfires!
How would starting a fire prevent other fires from damaging the land?
Doing this also allows for new vegetation to grow, providing nutrients for the land.
How does fire prevent fire damage?
The Michigan Prescribed Fire Council sets these fires to get rid of large amounts of brush and other vegetation which would otherwise spread wildfire very quickly through the forest.
How do we know that prescribed fires will not become out of control like wildfires?
The council makes sure that every burn manager is very educated on the behavior of fire and is extremely aware of the possible dangers. We continue to monitor the fire days after it is started so there is no way for it to restart.
Control of prescribed fires
Careful consideration and planning is taken before any burn process. Every burn is affectively monitored to assure that it does not become out of control.
