They sat, and while I answered cheerily, they chatted of familiar things. is situational " what would normally happen is that people would be scared and freaked out if the police was front of your door and investigate the problem.
- This is an example of dramatic Irony because the narrator "very gradually — I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye for ever." and we know what hes going to do to the old man but the old man don't know
