  • The Economic Utility of a Pencil
  • Form Utility: Pencils are manufactured from scrap wood and graphite at factories in bulk.

  • Place Utility: When back to school season comes around, kids start to rush to Office Max, Target, and Staples to buy their supplies. Jenny finds herself a pack of sharpened #2 pencils at the front of Staples.
  • Time Utility: Jenny couldn't choose between the pencils or the colored pencils because both were on sale for the back to school season!
  • Information Utility: Jenny reads the label and finds out more about the pencils. As she reads, she realizes that she saw a few ads from that company in her email and it is highly recommended.
  • Possession Utility: Jenny thinks that the pencils are more useful then the colored pencils. She picks up the pencils and purchases them. She now owns the pencils and is ready for school.
