Storyboard Text

  • On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks was going home on Montgomery’s Cleveland Avenue bus from her job at a local department store. She waited for the bus after a long day at work.
  • She got on the bus and went all the way to the back in to the ¨colored section¨of the bus and found a seat.
  • After a few stops a man gets on the bus and tells Rosa Parks to get out of her seat because there were no more seats left on the bus for him to sit. When Rosa refused he got the bus driver.
  • She was seated in the front row of the “colored section.” When the white seats filled, the bus driver, Fred Blake, asked Rosa Parks and three others to leave their seats. The other Black riders complied, but Rosa Parks refused.
  • Rosa Parks was then arrested . She was also then fined $10, plus $4 in court fees.
  • Following the events surrounding Rosa Parks, she and her family moved. Parks began working as an administrative aide in Detroit office in 1965 and remained there until her retirement in 1988.
