- The narrator is introduced he tells us how he is not mad but nervous and diseased.He proceeded to prove his sanity to the readers even though having killed the old man over his "Vulture eye".
- Who's there?
- (Chuckled)
- The narrator lives in the same building as the old man, he was the caretaker of the old man.The pale blue eye of the old man bothered the him, "The man had never done wrong to me, it was his eye'.
- At mid-night for the next seven days the narrator with a lantern stalks the old man as he sleeps, waiting for the perfect opportunity to kill the old man for his "eye".
- Yes! he is stone dead
- One night the narrator had planned to murder the old man , the narrator accidentally woke up the old man. The narrator got nervous his anxiety grew louder and louder until he could not take it any more.
- The narrator suffocated the old man with great force, before the old man died he let out a loud shriek. The old man "shrieked once and only once"(59).

- The narrator disassembled the old mans body into many pieces and hid it under the wooden floor planks. He also cleaned and checked blood and any possible traces related to the murder.
