- you know same old same old
- so hows work
- why are we doing this again
- because we've always done this
- yes we were worried sick
- sorry im late i forgot this was today
- we thought we were going to have to start without you
- let's not think abou that
- i hope you don't win honey
- alright everyone time to start
- it's not fair
- the children gather rocks before the lottery and one of them starts questioning why they are collecting rocks and another child dosen't really know he had just being doing it for so long he didin't know why he was doing it (not part of the story but could've happened)
- phew another safe yaer
- no! it's not fair!
- mrs hutchinson arrives and mr summers appears with the black box you pick your slip from and the lottery begins
- it's tessie she's got the dot
- grab the rocks
- another year another lottery
- every male representent of each household goes to grab a slip of paper as mr and mrs hutchinson discuss the lottery (their conversation foreshadowing the fact that you don't win anything good at the lottery)
- it's not fair!
- why do we do this
- oh no it's bill
- mr hutchinson ends up getting the paper with a black dot that means a member of his household won and they must do another smaller lottery to see who it is
- its bill
- mr hutchinson tells everyone that tessie his wife received a black dot on her paper meaning she won memebers of the crowd go and grab the rocks the children were gatheing earlier for what happens next
- tessie is stoned to death as is every winner of the lottery each year as bill hutchinson questions why they still do the lottery (not part of the story but could've happeneed)
