Storyboard Text

  • The Revolution takes a radical turn 
  • Execution of King Louis XVI
  • Louis XVI will be executed by the guillotine
  • France becomes a republic 
  • France is now a republic. 
  • On the morning of August 10, a group of people decided to storm the Palace of the Tuileries. They killed the king's guard and held the king as hostage for several hours. Later the National Assembly decided to imprison the royal family.
  • The Convention
  • Some members of the convention with Robespierre in the centre.
  • On December 3, 1972 King Louis XVI was tried in court and was sentenced to death by a court on charge of treason. On 21 January, 1973 he was executed publicly at the Place de la Concorde. The queen met with the same fate soon after.
  • The Reign of Terror
  • That's what you get for selling bad wine.
  • After the king gets beheaded, the monarchy is abolished and France becomes a republic. Now, all men of 21 years and above , regardless of their wealth, were allowed to vote.
  • Execution of Robespierre
  • After the monarchy was abolished, elections took place in France. The newly elected assembly was called the Convention. The purpose of the assembly was to cause fear within the French people so that they could suppress counter - revolutions.
  •  Robespierre joined the Convention and began to take control. He decided to behead anybody who planned to go against him. Later, the number of people killed went up as he accused many people for treason when they made a small mistake. This was known as the reign of terror.
  • Robespierre continued to pursue his policies so relentlessly that even his supporters began to demand moderation. Finally, he was convicted by a court in July 1794, arrested and on the next day executed by a guillotine.
  • The Reign of Terror is now over. Maximilian Robespierre will now be guillotined.
