- There was once a very charming and beautiful young woman, who, due to her social class, was not living the lifestyle of her expectations.
- Her loving husband, in an attempt to cheer her up, worked hard to get them an invitation to a ministry event. He expected her to be thrilled, but instead she sobbed in self pity. She complained that she had nothing to wear.
- Her husband bought her a new gown, and her wealthy friend had loaned her a diamond necklace to style for the event. She was the belle of the ball.

- Apon returning home after the event, Madame Loisel had realized the necklace was missing. Her husband search long and far for it, but it was no where to be found.
- The pair spent their life savings, and more, to replace the necklace, leaving them poor and working day and night. It took the couple ten years to pay off the debt of the necklace.
- In relief, years later, Madame Loisel decided to tell her friend the truth, only to be stunned with the news that the lost necklace was entirely false jewels.
