  • In the 1760s, the British were in a great deal of debt. This led to the British taxing American colonist on many everyday items.
  • We need a new source of income!
  • We'll tax the American colonies, for money.
  • One of the first things the British started taxing the American colonists on was stamps. This led to the stamp act which included the taxes on every piece of printed paper, playing cards business license and legal documents.
  • The British expanded on this by also taxing the American colonist on essentials such as paint, paper, glass, lead and tea. Which would be called the townshed act
  • The americans did not think it was right for the British to be able to impose taxes and be able to gain revenue from it
  • We need to stop them from taxing us
  • On the night of December 16 1773, a large group of men disguised themselves and boarded docked ships and threw in the sea 342 chest of tea into the water.
  • The aftermath of the tea party led to the intolerable acts being implemented. This event was important to american history because it played a major role into American independence
