The narrator has a huge crush on his neighbor, who's name is Shelia Mant. She is a lot older than him, but he still believes he can date her.
Shelia's family is playing baseball, and the narrator comes over and asks Shelia to go to a concert. He actually believes that she likes him.
While Shelia and the narrator are on there way to the concert, a huge bass ends up on his fishing pole, while Shelia tells the narrator about how she hates fishing. Now the narrator has to make up his mind, catch the bass,or keep going with Shelia.
The narrator ends up cutting the line when they get to the concert, he chooses the girl over the bass. He soon regrets his decicion.
At the concert, the narrator barley gets to dance with Shelia, she ends ditching him and dancing with Eric. While this is all happening the narrator is thinking about the bass.
The narrator can't believe he made this mistake. He realizes he shouldn't have put what he loved to the side for a temporary desire.
