Storyboard Description

Myrtle's death is sadly poetic; a woman who spent her life acquiring material possessions by whatever means possible has been, in effect, killed by her own desires. Dwelling too much on material things, Fitzgerald says, can not bring a positive resolution. Materialism can only bring misery, as seen through Myrtle.

Storyboard Text

  • Wilson locked Myrtle in her room and planned to keep her there for 2 days
  • Myrtle looks out the window and thinks its tom and runs out her room
  • On the way home from NY, Gatsby let Daisy drive the car in order to calm her down. Just as they are passing by the Wilsons'
  • Myrtle runs out into the road and is fatally hit by the car.
  • Myrtle is left for dead as Daisy continues to drive away.
  • Wilson is clearly devastated and distraught by Myrtle's death, and may possibly feel some regret too, as he was the reason why Myrtle ran into the road.
