- The problem we have today is 3x-5=-8(6+5x)
- first you would use the distributive property. That means taking the variable 8 in our problem and multiplying it my the numbers inside the parenthesis which are 5 and 6. that would change our problem from 3x-5=-8(6+5x) to 3x-5=-48-40x
- there is also something called moving variables to one side like in our problem 3x-5=-48-40x we want to get the 40x on the other side of the = sign so we add 40x to 40x which cancels them out and the we add the 40x to the 3x because they both have and x. so our new answer would be 43x-5=-48
- our problem dosent have this but there is something called combining like terms. This would mean combining things that are the same and on the same side of the = sign. Like 3x and 4x because they both have x
- in our problem we have 43x-5=-48. so we haft to move numbers without variables to one side. We do that by taking the -5 because its the only variable on that side of the = sign and we ad 5 to itself because its a negative and that cancels the 5 out then you would also add 5 to the -48. that would brig our answer to be 43x=-43
- now that we have 43x=-43 we haft to isolate the variable. we do that by dividing the 43x by itself which would cancel it our then we do the same to the -43 and -43 divided by -43 is -1 so X=-1
