  • This is a church Pocahontas. This is where we worship. Back in England there used to be hundreds of them.
  • Ah I think I understand but back among the Patawomeck Indians we had a holy man   
  • John Rolfe explaining the concept of a church to Pocahontas

  • These tabaco plants will make the colony rich, we'll have gold to spare
  • John Rolfe planting the first tobacco seeds

  • Yes Sir, the London Company will make good work of this.
  • I King James 1 give you a charter to start a colony in Virginia, good luck Roanoke disappeared!

  • If I get bit one more time I´m moving to England where there is no starving time or swamp.
  • Jamestown was built in a swamp next to the James River, with plenty of fertile soil and mosquitos. 
  • Why is it surprising that Jamestown was a success? Because they lost so many people to disease, indians, and starvation. Historians estimate out of the 500 people around 80% of them were dead the starving time. Only tobacco and a guy named JOhn Rolfe.
