- Coyotito gets bitten by a scorpian. To heal him, Kino and Juana takes him to the doctor, but the doctor does not help the baby because the family is poor.
- Everyone is trying to cheat me.
- The baby is healed after Juana sucked to venom out. Kino found the largest pearl ever when he was pearl diving. That "catch" to this pearl is that when it hits the village eyes, it will become evil.
- Kino is a man, which means he is "half insane and half god." I am a woman which means "reason," "caution," and "preservation."
- The doctor and priest wants to help Kino now that he had found the pearl. The reason to this is becasue the pearl is worth fifty thousand pesos (2,203.55 United States Dollar)
- Juana ano are dressed are in their finest clothes, and dress Coyotito in his Batisimal clothe. Juan Tomás, Kino's older brother, helps them kind somone to sell the pearl to. They end up failing with everyone trying to cheat Kino.
- Juana tries to throw the pearl in the ocean because it has turned Kino evil, but Kino beats her up. Their house is on fire and somone tries to sneak up on Kino. Kino takes a knife and slice the anonymos person's throat.
- The next day, Kino ralizes how the pearl turned him evil. When Kino throws it into the ocean, it is glowing green. "And the music of the pearl drifted to a whisper and disappeared.
