  • What? You don't know how earthquakes occur?... Fine, I'll teach you
  • REALLY? THANKS!!
  • These plates move gradually because of the heat producted in the mantle, which is the layer of the earth under the crust. The plate's edges are called plate boundaries.
  • Now, lets start with the basics. The outermost layer of Earth, called the crust, is composed of tectonic plates.
  • The point in the crust where the earthquake originates from is called the focus. The point on the Earth's surface that feels the highest amount of impact of the earthquake is called the epicentre. Afterwards, faults appear. Faults are fractures where the crust has moved. Earthquakes happen as a result of this event.
  • Movements of tectonc plates causes collision of plate boundaries. As these plates collide, some parts of it gets stuck while the rest of it keeps going.
  • So, Earthquakes are the sudden shaking of Earth's crust caused by released energy?
  • Yeah! I'm so glad you figured it out.
